(Sault Ste. Marie, ON September 3, 2021) – Four local high school students –Evan Bowman,Emily Hewgill, Annalisa Spina, and Paige Twardzik – are 鶹tv’s most recent recipients of the Specialist High Skills Major Award. Through this scholarship, now in its third year, these students were awarded $1,000 towards their tuition for the upcoming academic year!
To be eligible for the award, students must have been graduating from high school in June 2021, have applied and been accepted to 鶹tv, have completed the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) and continuing that path into a 鶹tv program, include a letter of recommendation, and submit a one-page essay outlining their high school experience, why SHSM was chosen and how that has prepared them for College.
The SHSM lets students focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
“Through this Specialist High Skills Major Award, 鶹tv wanted to reinforce the benefits and strengths of the SHSM and provide additional incentive to those students transitioning from SHSM to a related area of study at the College,” said Tanya Running, Manager Strategic Enrolment, 鶹tv. “These students have found their passions through SHSM and we are honoured to be able to support them and celebrate their hard work and perseverance. We are tremendously excited for these students to continue their studies here this fall and we look forward to continuing to offer this award into the future,” she added.

Evan Bowmangraduate of White Pines Collegiate and Vocational School, Information and Communications Technology Specialist High Skills Major continuing studies in the Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics program.

Emily Hewgillgraduate of Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School, Health and Wellness Specialist High Skills Major continuing studies in the Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
